Freight rail service linking Hai Phong with China’s Kaiyuan launched
The Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) has launched a freight rail service between Vietnam’s northern port city of Hai Phong and Kaiyuan in China’s Yunnan province.

Hanoi (VNA) - The VietnamRailways Corporation (VNR) has launched a freight rail service betweenVietnam’s northern port city of Hai Phong and Kaiyuan in China’s Yunnanprovince.
The line has a total length of 610kilometres and a single ride will take 29 hours, excluding time spent oncustoms procedures at the Lao Cai station in Vietnam and Shanyao station inChina.
At the present time, cargo on the trains bound for China is mainly sulphur andzinc ore while the cargo from the other side is mainly fertiliser.
In the first stage, there will be two pairsof trains a day between the two localities and the frequency is expected torise to three-four pairs of trains a day in the near future.
The launch of the Hai Phong-Kaiyuan cargo line is part of the freight railcooperation between the two countries, which helps to transport goods withlower costs than those transported by road.
