A Vietnamese delegation led by Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan attendedthe two-day conference, themed “ Asia ’s Role in a Tumultuous World –In Search of a New Growth Model”.
Speaking at theevent, jointly held by Japan ’s Nikkei newspaper and the Japan Centrefor Economic Research, ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan said thatcountries are facing challenges in the fields of politics, economicsand environment.
According to the ASEAN leader, toset up the ASEAN Community in 2015, ASEAN cannot act unilaterally butneeds to cooperate with other countries, including Japan .
Japan Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba stressed the importance ofbuilding a new stable and prosperous order based on democratic values inthe Asia-Pacific region, with two main pillars: network diplomacy andhigh-quality society through strengthening and expanding the middleclass.
Participants at the conference also discussedsuch topics as prospects for Asia regarding challenges and solutionsfor the global economy, science’s role in Asia’s future and changes inthe balance of power in Asia-Pacific and the impacts on regionalsecurity.-VNA
At the working session, General Secretary Lam presented the Party Committee of the VFF and central mass organisations with the Politburo’s Decision No. 304-QD/TW, which outlines the new structure, functions and tasks of the VFF Central Committee, marking a significant step in improving its organisational effectiveness.
