Garment exports likely to hit 31 billion USD in 2017

– The garment-textileindustry expects to rake in 31 billion USD in exports by the end of 2017, ayear-on-year rise of 10.23 percent.

The Vietnam Textile & Apparel Association(VITAS) revealed the information at a press conference in Hanoi on December 4.

Vice Chairman of VITAS Truong Van Cam said 2017 wasa challenging year for the sector due to the halt of the Trans-PacificPartnership – which has been renamed the Comprehensive and ProgressiveTrans-Pacific Partnership.

However, with determination, the garment-textilesector has overcome difficulties to reap encouraging outcomes, he said.

The industry has applied technologies to developcorporate governance and business production, creating products with betterquality and high added values.

Notably, the VITAS has built trade promotionprogrammes, professional training courses, and shared experience withbusinesses to increase productivity and adopt smart production models.

The association has proposed the Government simplifyadministrative procedures for garment-textile firms.
A conferenceto review the sector’s performance will be held on December 15 in the centralcity of Da Nang, Cam said.

Apparel exports in the last two months of thisyear are expected to reach 5.27 billion USD, increasing the total exports to morethan 30 billion USD.-VNA
