Global health experts discuss prevention of zoonotic diseases in Da Nang

– Health experts from 54countries and international organisations gathered at a conference in thecentral coastal city of Da Nang on August 29 to strengthen cooperation andshare approaches to prevent animal-to-human transmission diseases, includingbird flu, Ebola and rabies.

The event was chaired by Vietnam’s Ministry ofHealth (MoH) and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) andrepresentatives from Indonesia and Senegal’s governments.

Vietnam has stepped up the prevention of animal-to-humantransmission diseases with the engagement of 27 ministries, departments, andinternational organisations and sponsors.

The MoH is coordinating with ministries andagencies to continue building a national master plan to implement the International Health Regulations in 2018-2023.

Diseases that cross over from animals to humans,including Ebola and avian influenza, can have massive, rapid and far-reachingconsequences on human health, livelihoods, food safety and economicdevelopment.

A public health emergency operations centreopened in Vietnam in 2013 with the participation of the MoH, MARD, and internationalorganisations such as the WHO, the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, andthe US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention to coordinate and respond tonew diseases, most of which come from animals.-VNA

♍ Vietnam, France collaborate in vaccine production technology transfer

Under the agreement, VNVC and Sanofi will gradually implement technology transfers to enable domestic production of several key Sanofi vaccines that are widely used in Vietnam. In addition, Sanofi will support VNVC in training human resources and quality management in vaccine research and manufacturing.
