The Ministry of Health’s Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control recently released guidance on piloting the organisation of technical groups supporting HIV preventative measures and treatment. The pilot programme is carried out in 12 provinces and cities including Son La, Hoa Binh, Binh Duong, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from August through the end of 2016.
The groups will gather qualified experts at each locality to work with rehabilitation using alternative medicine, provide HIV/AIDS treatment and care and administer HIV tests and consultations.
They are tasked with submitting proposals on specific assistance from the Ministry of Health, training lower-level technicians and updating local medical workers on professional guidance released by the ministry, among others. According to Director of the Department Nguyen Hoang Long, given the reduction of international aid for handling the epidemic in Vietnam, the country will need to be active in capacity building and resource preparation.-VNA
