Ha Long Bay: 30 years as a World Heritage Site

December 17, 2024, marks 30 years since Ha Long Bay was recognised as a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO. Over the past three decades, Ha Long Bay has maintained its prestigious title, with its magnificent beauty remaining a source of pride for Vietnam as a whole, Quang Ninh province in particular, and one of the most alluring destinations on the planet.
With thousands of limestone islands rising from the water, mysterious caves, and pristine beaches, Ha Long Bay’s value lies not only in its stunning natural beauty but also in its rich biodiversity, unique ecosystems, and significant geological and geomorphological features. These cultural and scientific values continue to attract both domestic and international visitors.

🐼Notably, on September 16, 2023, Ha Long Bay, together with the Cat Ba Archipelago in Hai Phong, was once again recognised as a World Natural Heritage Site. This milestone marks Vietnam’s first dual World Natural Heritage Site and holds great significance for the country in general and for the provinces of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong in particular.

Over the past 30 years, Ha Long Bay has welcomed over 57 million visitors, generating more than 8.6 trillion VND in tourism revenue. Named one of the Top 25 Most Attractive Destinations♊ globally by CNN in 2023, Ha Long Bay has truly become a renowned tourism brand for Quang Ninh province and Vietnam as a whole.

💜Tourism products and services in Ha Long Bay are increasingly diverse, offering eight sightseeing routes and five overnight accommodation zones. Local authorities have also expanded the tourism space by developing regional signature products to enhance connectivity between Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay, Van Don, and Co To. This approach helps reduce the tourism burden on the strictly protected areas of the heritage site./.
