The Party Organisation, authorities and people of Ha Tinh province must not become complacent about their attainments but continue striving to accelerate local development, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung stressed at the central locality’s 18th Party Congress on October 17. A political report at the congress read that Ha Tinh made breakthroughs and gained a facelift between 2010 and 2015 with an average economic growth rate of 19.58 percent, higher than the 17th congress’s target of over 14 percent. Notably, the figure was 26 percent in 2014 and is expected to hit 28 percent this year. Its annual per capita income exceeded 44 million VND (1,974 USD) during the period, 9 million VND higher than the target set at the previous congress.
The industrial sector is considered a highlight in the local economy as the province now houses two economic zones (EZ), 19 industrial and handicraft parks and clusters, along with 426 domestic and foreign invested projects with a total registered capital of nearly 1.8 billion USD. Economic zones, especially the Vung Ang EZ, have become a growth engine that fuelled the expansion of many industries, the report added. In his address, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said those achievements created a firm foundation for Ha Tinh’s stronger development in the years ahead. He told the province’s Party Organisation to straightforwardly review local performance as the outcomes haven’t ensured balanced and sustainable economic development. Besides, Ha Tinh is also facing frequent natural disasters, poor irrigation networks and recurrent environmental pollution problems.
He agreed with the orientation of faster and more sustainable development towards modern industry and international integration as set by the 18th provincial Party Congress, suggesting the locality focus on industrialising agriculture and services sectors. The leader expressed his hope that Ha Tinh’s Party Organisation will uphold local traditions while all Party members will put the Party and people’s interests above their personal benefits and work hard for the sake of the people. The two-day Party Congress for the 2015 – 2020 tenure is attended by 348 delegates representing more than 93,000 Party members of the local Party Organisation.-VNA
