Hanoi seeks to expand bond with New Zealand’s Wellington

Hanoi (VNA) – Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairwomanof the municipal People’s Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc led a delegation to paya working visit to Wellington of New Zealand from September 16-18.

The visit aimed to learn from New Zealand’s experience in many fields, includingpolicymaking, developing smart cities, infrastructure, green technology andenergy, education-training, and building e-Government.

It was expected to help promote investment and trade cooperation between Hanoiand Wellington as well as between Vietnam and New Zealand.

The Vietnamese delegation held talks with Simon Woold - member of the WellingtonCouncil, during which the two sides informed each other about their developmentand shared experience in operating council activities.

The Wellington side shared its experience in ensuring social welfare for localcitizens and promoting sustainable growth; and issues related vocationaltraining, health and social insurance, development of smart cities andtransport systems.

They also discussed policymaking, including policies for socio-economic development.

The Vietnamese delegation also had a working session with Rarolyn Dick, senioradvisor on strategy and administration of Wellington.

The two sides discussed on criteria for building smart cities, strategies forbuilding social housing, immigration issues, and the role of consultingcouncils for issues concerning youth and woman in building socio-economicdevelopment policies.

Ina meeting with the delegation in Victoria University, Brook Panned fromWellington’s Economic Development Agency said he hopes the two sides willexpand their collaboration in training, especially training management andleadership skills.

Forher part, Ngoc thanked the Wellington side for sharing its valuable experience.

She appreciated the fruitful development of Vietnam-New Zealand relations and betweenHanoi and Wellington in particular in recent years, affirming these are solidfoundations for the two countries’ localities to deepen cooperation.

During their stay, the delegation also visited the Vietnamese  Embassy in New Zealand, during which Ngoccalled on the agency to help further promote bilateral ties and cooperationbetween Hanoi and New Zealand’s localities. -VNA
