Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi will spend 60 billion VND (2.6 million USD) onpreserving and promoting the value of the Co Loa relic site in Dong Anhdistrict during the 2018-2020 period after the site is reported to be encroachedseriously.
The move is part of a project on the management andconservation of the site for 2018-2020, with a vision to 2030, recentlyapproved by Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung.
The project will cover an area of 860.4ha, including thecentre of the Co Loa Citadel and subordinate constructions at Co Loa, Duc Tu,Viet Hung and Uy No communes in the district.
Under the project, the Thang Long - Hanoi HeritageConservation Centre will serve as a focal agency that monitors theimplementation of the plan in accordance with current regulations of the Stateand the city.
The centre is tasked with managing construction investmentand restoration of the relic site; taking prime responsibility and coordinatingwith relevant agencies to research and implement archaeological excavations;collecting and displaying materials related to the relic site; strengtheningcommunication on the site; building rules and regulations on managing andprotecting the site as well as tourism activities in the area.
It will collaborate with the local departments of tourism,culture, and education to implement the project.
Accordingly, an exhibition centre will highlight the valueand history of the site. More tours and visitor programmes will be established.
Tran Viet Anh, Director of the Thang Long – HanoiPreservation Centre, said that last year, with support from the scientificresearch and consulting council for Hanoi’s Co Loa and ancient citadelpreservation, the centre had fulfilled its mission to solve problems inresearching and preserving the heritage.
He has asked the capital city’s cultural and historicalmanagement agencies to accelerate the preservation and restoration of Co LoaCitadel to ensure the original value of the city’s historical relics.
Co Loa Citadel was built during the end of the Hong BangDynasty (about 257 BC), about 20km to the north of today’s Hanoi.
It is a place of worship for King An Duong Vuong andPrincess My Chau, who are mentioned in the legends that have been passed downmany generations.
