Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi’s transport infrastructure is alarming since a number of recently-launched works have become overloaded, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai raised his concern at a meetingജ with the Transport Ministry in Hanoi on March 7.

He hailed the ministry for working closely with municipal authorities to put into use major transport works, such as the Hanoi-Hai Phong, Hanoi-Lao Cai, Hanoi-Thai Nguyen highways, the belt road 3’s overpass section, T2 terminal at Noi Bai international airport, Nhat Tan bridge and Vo Nguyen Giap street. However, he also pointed out existing flaws, including the slow progress of urban railway construction, and the lax management of transport infrastructure, adding that belt roads 1,2 and 3 and thoroughfares are yet to be well-connected.
He asked the ministry and local administration to devise planning for the city’s transport and a master plan for the capital region; and fund the construction of belt roads, bridges and highways which are expected to be operational before 2030 via the State budget, the official development assistance fund and through public-private partnership, or even via public funding from different economic sectors. About concern over the burgeoning use of personal vehicles, rising population and limited space for urban transport, Hai asked local authorities to devise more specific solutions to deal with these issues. The leader also requested a crackdown on environmental hygiene violations, pollution, and order at bus stations.
Deputy Transport Minister Nguyen Hong Truong informed that several projects, such as the Cat Linh-Ha Dong elevated railway, the Hoa Lac-Hoa Binh expressway and the Phap Van-Cau Gie highway (second stage), are facing difficulties in site clearance and capital. He suggested the State allocates other capital resources for the Cat Linh-Ha Dong project. Vu Van Vien, Director of the municipal Transport Department, said the department is working with the ministry’s Transport Development and Strategy Institute, to design possible schemes limiting personal vehicles.
The municipal People’s Committee will submit documents to the municipal Party Committee for consideration this April, he added.-VNA
