HCM City (VNA) – The Republic of Korea(RoK)’s Gyeongsangbuk province opened its representative office in Vietnam’ssouthern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City on May 30 to promote the bilateralcomprehensive relations.
Deputy governor of the RoK province Kim Jang-joosaid the establishment of the office in HCM City will make active contributionsto increasing economic and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and the RoK ingeneral and between the two localities in particular.
HCM City and Gyeongsangbuk have carried out anumber of cooperation activities in politics, economy, culture, and educationin recent years.
In 2016, the two sides signed an agreement onco-organising the HCM City-Gyeongju world cultural festival 2017, featuring arange of traditional and modern Korean cultural activities.
Gyeongsangbuk authorities affirmed to work withHCM City to successfully hold the event, which is expected to become a neweconomic festival where all are partners.
Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s CommitteeHuynh Cach Mang said the launch of the Gyeongsangbuk’s representative office inthe city is an important highlight in celebration of the 25th anniversary ofVietnam-RoK diplomatic ties.
This will help reinforce the bilateral strategiccooperative partnership as well as the sound relations between HCM City andother Korean localities, he added.
The office is hoped to serve as a bridge for expandingthe cultural and economic collaboration between the two localities, he said.
The HCM City-Gyeongju world cultural festival2017 is scheduled to take place in HCM City in November, featuring theprosperity of the Asian community via cultural exchanges.
As the largest national-level cultural programmeof the RoK held abroad in 2017, the festival will include traditional Koreanculture and art performances as well as exhibitions of high-quality products ofthe RoK and participating countries.-VNA
