HCM City boosts international cooperation in expanding Binh Dien market

HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City welcomes experience and technology frominternational partners for the expansion and management of Binh Dien wholesalemarket, which is expected to become a trade centre and tourist destination.
Tran VinhTuyen, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, made the remarkat a meeting in the southern city on April 20, calling for collaboration with hisguest Bertrand Ambroise, director for international cooperation at Semmaris,which administers the Paris-based Rungis International Market, the world’s largestwholesale food market.
Ambroisestated with the experience from running Rungis, Semmaris is willing to consultand transfer technologies on market building and operation to the Sai GonTrading Group (SATRA) to oversee Binh Dien market.
With a viewto helping Binh Dien turn into a big wholesale market, Semmaris intends tofocus assistance on warehouse management, waste treatment and freezertechnology.
Ambroisesaid his organisation also wants to increase trade transactions between the twomarkets and help Vietnamese agricultural products access EU markets.
The successof the Binh Dien expansion project depends largely on support from localauthorities and close work between the public and private sectors, he added.
Commendinghis guest’s proposal, Tuyen suggested Semmaris and SATRA engage in researchcollaboration for a joint project to ensure hygiene and product quality at theexpanded Binh Dien market.
The sidesshould boost transactions, contributing to bilateral trade between Vietnam andFrance, the official noted.
