HCM City launches anti-dengue fever campaign

Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Health on May 11 launched a campaign on preventing and combating dengue fever in response to ASEAN Dengue Day (June 15).

HCM City (VNA) – Ho ChiMinh City’s Department of Health on May 11 launched a campaign on preventing andcombating dengue fever in response to ASEAN Dengue Day (June 15).

Speaking at the event, Nguyen HuuHung, Vice Director of the Department of Health, said the peak of the campaignwill last until the end of June while a range of activities will be held throughoutthe year.

The campaign will focus onsanitation work to kill mosquito larva and clean the environment in districts,particularly areas infected by the disease, on a weekly basis. Frequentinspections will also be carried out to promptly detect and tackleoutbreaks.

Statistics from the departmentshowed that the number of dengue fever cases has been on the rise in recentyears. In 2018 alone, about 28,000 people were hospitalised due to the disease,10 of them were killed.

Vaccine for dengue fever has onlybeen tested in a number of countries and has yet to be available in Vietnam. Assuch, locals are recommended to actively kill mosquito larva at home and atworking places.-VNA

❀ Vietnam, France collaborate in vaccine production technology transfer

Under the agreement, VNVC and Sanofi will gradually implement technology transfers to enable domestic production of several key Sanofi vaccines that are widely used in Vietnam. In addition, Sanofi will support VNVC in training human resources and quality management in vaccine research and manufacturing.
