HCMCity (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Health has devised plans fora variety of scenarios if the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the cityrises to 50-500.
Accordingto the Department of Health, if the number of confirmed COVID-19 casesincreases to 500, there could be 150 cases with severe health conditionsrequiring intensive care.
Ifthere are 50-500 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the number of suspected cases couldreach 740-3,200, said the department.
Thecity will prepare 840 beds for treatment and 30 beds for intensive care at theHospital for Tropical Diseases, Cu Chi acute respiratory disease treatment hospital,Can Gio hospital for COVID-19 treatment, HCM City Children Hospital andChildren Hospital No. 2 for the scenario which envisions 50-100 confirmed cases.
Itwill prepare 1,400 beds for treatment and 60 beds for intensive care at the fivehospitals for the scenario of 100-200 confirmed cases.
Ifthere are 200-300 confirmed cases, it will prepare 2,500 beds for treatment and90 beds for intensive care at the five above-said hospitals and another COVID-19treatment hospital in the city’s district 9.
Ifthere are 500 confirmed cases, the city will prepare 3,700 beds for treatmentand 150 beds for intensive care at the six hospitals and existing quarantineareas at hospitals in the city.
Thedepartment has also planned to arrange for an appropriate number of beds fortreatment of COVID-19 patients at hospitals, and for allocation of essentialmedical equipment for treatment of COVID-19 patients as well as doctors andnurses needed to treat the 500 confirmed cases under this scenario.
Itis estimated that a total of 548 doctors and 1,246 nurses would be needed toprovide treatment and care for 500 patients with COVID-19.
Personalprotective equipment for health officials, drugs, chemicals and infectionprevention control measures, among others, have been evaluated for variouspreparedness and response plans, according to the department.
Asof 18:00 on April 9, HCM City had reported 54 confirmed COVID-19 cases, ofwhom 37 patients have fully recovered./.
