HCM City (VNA) – An ornamentalfish exhibition, the fourth edition of the event, opened in Ho Chi Minh City onSeptember 12.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Pham ThietHoa, director of the municipal Investment & Trade Promotion Centre, saidornamental fish is considered a key agricultural product of the city withsignificant potential for production development and export.
As of 2018, HCM City has 88.9 hectares ofornamental fish raising areas and more than 292 businesses in the sector. Itexported some 20.31 million ornamental fish last year, earning 22.39 millionUSD.
He said the exhibition, first held in 2016,aims to create an exchange space for producers and businesses as well as avisiting destination for local fish lovers.
This year, lasting until September 16, theexpo consists of different areas, including a 600m2 aquarium with 200 ponds todisplay various types of fish and aquatic designs.
It also covers a commercial space with 80stalls run by 60 firms from HCM City, Hanoi, Khanh Hoa, Da Nang, and BinhDuong, among others. They are showcasing ornamental fish, aquarium plants andfish tank supplies.
The organising board said new features thisyear include areas that introduce biotechnology products and models appliedadvanced technologies in the field, and a consultation space for businesses andvisitors.
Nguyen Hoang Dinh, owner of the MekongDiscus fish farm, said the exhibition is not only a chance for insiders to gettogether but also an effective trade promotion platform.
He said that after his participation lastyear, he has secured five contracts to sell fish and design tanks./.
