HCM City to build 'golden brands' for agricultural products

HCMCity (VNS/VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Agriculture andRural Development is building a 'golden brand' for its agriculturalenterprises, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Vo Van Hoan hassaid.

In2020, none of the 30 enterprises receiving the HCM City Golden Brand Awardwere in the agricultural sector.

Hoanhas encouraged enterprises to develop brands for local agricultural productsand services. Can Gio district’s specialties, for example, that havealready been branded include dried shark catfish, bird'snest and mango.

Thedevelopment of high-value agricultural products together with tourism willbenefit the local economy and maintain agriculture.

DinhMinh Hiep, Director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment, said the city will continue to call for more investmentin agriculture. The aim is to increase its number of agriculturalenterprises to 2,000 from the 1,910 enterprises in 2020.

Ninetypercent of agricultural enterprises in Vietnam are small or microsized, with capital of less than 10 billion VND (430,000 USD).

Thecountry’s agriculture sector targets being ranked in the top 15 in the world,in which the agricultural processing sector would rank among the top 10countries by 2030./.
