HCM City, US company cooperate in boosting online payment

HCM City (VNA) – Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City’s People’sCommittee Ngo Minh Chau hosted Regional President for Asia Pacific of theUS-based VISA company Chris Clark on August 7, during which they discussed cooperation inbuilding an online payment system for Vietnam’s largest city.
Chau affirmed thatduring the process of building the city into a smart urban area and aneconomic, financial, scientific and technological hub of the region, it hopesto and is willing to expand collaboration with international partners,including VISA.
Bilateral cooperationin the transport sector will contribute to addressing challenges facing thecity, especially in development urban transport, he stated.
He added that VISA’sproposal of collaborating in building an online payment system is in line with hiscity’s demand, so the city will coordinate closely with the company in thisfield to make it become a pioneer in applying online payment in Vietnam.
He also stressed thatensuring safety to avoid any possible risks is an important factor toconsolidate locals’ confidence and encourage them to get involved in the newpayment method.
Clark stated that VISAhas signed a cooperation agreement with the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport onthe use of smart tickets for the city’s bus system. He expressed his hope thatthe application will be expanded to metro routes and other public transportsystems in the city.
Underlining theimportance of developing the online payment method in the modern economy, heaffirmed that VISA hopes to bring to the city the most advanced technologies innon-cash financial payments so as to help boost the city’s economicdevelopment.
He told the host thathis company plans to study the implementation of a programme dedicated tostart-up businesses to promote online payment in small- and medium-sizedenterprises in Vietnam in general and in Ho Chi Minh City in particular.-VNA
