HCM City (VNA) – Ho ChiMinh City has been sending workers abroad under various programmes inrecent years, but challenges still exist, especially intraining, according to the municipal Department of Labour, Invalid andSocial Affairs.
Le Minh Tan, director of thedepartment, said that most workers who have returned after theexpiration of their contracts had saved a large amount of money andwere using it to do business and upgrade their accommodations.
Many of them have also foundjobs. More than 4,915 people worked abroad within the 2015-2019 period,mostly in Japan, Taiwan, the Republic of Korea and others.
As many as 86 enterprises andbranches in the city send workers abroad, but several enterpriseshave recruited a large number of workers who have not been trainedto work abroad.
These workers laterfailed to meet the demands of highly skilled jobs.
Le Long Son, Director of EsuhaiCo. Ltd, said that many labour export enterprises did not have long-termstrategies for market development and brand name building.
The situation has led tounhealthy competition, leading to high costs for workers and poorreputation for labour export enterprises.
Son suggested that they shouldfocus on skilled workers to meet enterprises’ high demands.
Representatives of otherenterprises also suggested that relevant agencies should amend policies andadministrative procedures related to issuing new business certificates andchange them.
Labour divisions in thecity’s outlying districts of Cu Chi, Hoc Mon and 12 said that a framework forcooperation between enterprises and local authorities should be issued tocreate favourable conditions for management.
The labour departmentpetitioned the Ministry of Labour, Invalid and Social Affairs to give managementrights over activities related to labour export to people’scommittees in provinces and cities.
Van Thi Bach Tuyet, deputy headof the city’s National Assembly deputy delegation, said that guest workers whowere sent abroad eased unemployment at home and increased incomes of workers,contributing to socio-economic development./.
