At a working session with the city’s authorities on January 3 toreview the implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution 16 on HCMCity’s development until 2020 and how to carry out the 2014 economicdevelopment plan, Hue noted that while the city failed to meet theyearly target of GDP growth rate for the year, the 9.3 percent itrecorded in 2013 was 1.7 times the national figure. In addition, thecity reported a 5.1 percent increase in Consumer Price Index, much lowerthan the national rate, which reflected good management, he said.

The Party official also lauded what the city has reaped in socio-economic and cultural fields between 2011 and 2013.

He asked the city to uphold its good work to achieve the target ofbecoming a major economic, financial, cultural, medical, education andscience-technology hub of the country by 2020.

This year,the city will aim for a GDP growth of 9.5 – 10 percent and a 10percent increase in exports turnover. The rate of poor householdsaccording to the new poverty line of 16 million VND (760 USD) a year isprojected at 6.8 percent.-VNA
