National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi KimNgan has asked the northern province of Hoa Binh to build a long-termdevelopment vision to promote its advantage as a bridgebetween the northern midland and mountainous area and the Red River Delta.

Attending the provincial Party Organisation’s 17th Congress for the2020-2025 tenure on October 2, Ngan emphasised that the province needs to prioritiseinvestment in projects that boost socio-economic growth and improve itsbusiness climate and competitiveness index.

Local authorities, she said, should follow a sustainable economic growthstructure that fosters its agro-forestry strengths, with a focus on the developmentof the agricultural economy, technological application in the production,processing, and distribution of farm produce, and trademark development andtrade promotion, among others.

The top legislator urged the province to effectively implement the “One CommuneOne Product” programme, develop agriculture in association with community-basedtourism, tap the potential of the Hoa Binh Reservoir National Tourism Area, andmobilise concerted efforts for new-style rural building work.

She said it is necessary for the locality to boost its activities forbetter social welfare, public health care, and population quality, and underscoredthe importance of educational quality improvements and ethnic culturalconservation.

Environmental protection and natural disaster prevention and control arealso needed, the NA chief added.

She also requested Hoa Binh ensure security and defence, enhanceinternational integration, continue Party building work, and streamline its politicalapparatus, among other tasks.

The congress convened on October 2, gathering 347 delegates representingover 67,000 local Party members in the province.

According to a report presented, Hoa Binh grew 7.59 percent on averageannually between 2015 and 2020. Per capita gross regional domestic product (GRDP)is estimated at 63.8 million VND - 1.6 times higher than in 2015. The localeconomy, however, is yet to be sustainable, with a small economic scale and lowindustrial development./.
