Hoa Binh province declares free from African swine fever
The northern province of Hoa Binh has declared no more cases of African swine fever (ASF), becoming the first locality among 23 cities and provinces affected nationwide to get free from ASF.

Hoa Binh (VNA) – The northern province of Hoa Binh has declared no more cases of Africanswine fever (ASF), becoming the first locality among 23 cities and provincesaffected nationwide to get free from ASF.
Addressing the ceremony held in Luong Son district on April 9, Deputy Ministerof Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said Hoa Binh passed theduration of 30 days since its last ASF-infected animals culled and has found nomore new cases so it is eligible to declare free from ASF.
The quick control of ASF outbreak in Hoa Binh is attributed to the promptdirection of the Government, the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Agricultureand Rural Development and other competent agencies, he said.
Hoa Binh’s departments and competent agencies will keep a close eye on theimplementation of preventive measures to prevent the disease from coming back.
On March 6, the Luong Son district’s People’s Committee reported the first ASFcases in Ho Thanh commune and then Thanh Luong commune.
The functional agencies zoned off the affected areas, monitored thetransportation of pigs and pig products in and out of the areas, disinfectedvehicles going out from the areas, and kept a close eye on the slaughter andsale of pigs and pork products.
Bac Kan province is expected to become the second locality to declare ASF freeon April 10.
Accordingto the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), African swine fever is afatal infectious disease caused by a virus which spreads rapidly among pigs.
The OIE estimates that since early 2017, 20 countries had reported Africanswine fever with more than one million pigs culled.-VNA
African Swine Fever (ASF) has spread among 20 provinces and cities in Vietnam with nearly 25,000 pigs culled in an attempt to stop the disease from reaching the southern farms that produce the industry’s largest amount of pork.
Two animal inspection stations were established on March 20 on the National Highway No 1 section in Nui Thanh district of Quang Nam central province to control pig transportation from northern provinces and cities.

The patient, Tieu Viet But, born in 1970 and residing in Binh Tri commune, Binh Son district, the central province of Quang Ngai, was working aboard fishing vessel Qng – 95657TS when the incident occurred at 7:00 am.
