Quang Nam (VNA) – Thousands of locals andও tourists flocked to the ancient town of Hoi 🅘An to celebrate the 14th annual Hoi An-Japan Cultural Festival on August 15.
The event is the biggest rendezvous for the Japanese community living in Hoi An and the central region, and a chance for people in Hoi An people to experience Japanese culture.
Addressing the event, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Fukada Hiroshi lauded the relationship between the two countries, saying “Hoi An city is a typical symbol of the long time relationship between Vietnam and Japan.”
The Vietnam-Japan relationship is getting stronger, he added.
The ambassador also said traditional Japanese culture including Kimono, Manga comics, Cosplay, has been welcomed by Vietnamese people.
Cultural performances, photo exhibitions, sports activities, fashion show and folk games will take place on stages at the city’s rest-stop site in Bach Dang street, the Sculpture Park, the Old Quarter and the Japanese Bridge.
Craftsmen from Sakai will introduce their products at the Sculpture Park on the festival along with Japanese calligraphy training, Origami art and Vietnamese palm leaf folding.
During the festival, a seminar on the restoration of the Japanese Bridge will be held in Hoai River Square.-VNA

The 11th Hoi An-Japan Cultural Festival kicked off in the ancient town of Hoi An in Quang Nam central province on August 23 with numerous cultural and sports activities.
The ancient city will host the annual Hoi An-Japan Cultural Festival with a series of activities from August 28 to 30, Hoi An's culture centre said on June 25.
Eight teams will join the tournament, divided into two groups. Group A features Vietnam, the Philippines, Sichuan Club (China), and Australia, while Group B consists of Vietnam U21, Korabelka Club (Russia), Taiwan (China), and U21 Thailand.
Despite strong home support and high expectations, Vietnam were unable to overcome the defending champions, who secured their third consecutive win over Vietnam in a regional final, following previous victories in 2014 and 2023.
The event, part of Vietnam’s cultural diplomacy strategy through 2030, was jointly organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela and USM’s Faculty of International Relations. It attracted thousands of students from universities across Venezuela.
For the first time, Vietnamese audiences will have the opportunity to experience the ballet masterpiece "Don Quixote" in its original version by renowned choreographer Marius Petipa.
