– The Indian Ministry of External Affairsinaugurated the India-ASEAN Friendship Park in Tughlak Marg street, New Delhi onJanuary 2, a day ahead of the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit.

Vietnamese Minister of NaturalResources and Environment Tran Hong Ha joined Secretary General of theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Lim Jock Hoi and many ASEANofficials at the event.

Addressingthe inauguration ceremony, Indian Minister of ExternalAffairs Sushma Swaraj highlighted thesignificance of the event at a time when India and the ASEAN are celebratingthe 20th anniversary of their dialogue partnership.

The park symbolises the friendshipbetween India and ASEAN and demonstrates the two sides’ commitment to protectingthe environment, she said.

She also looked back at the fruitful development of the relations between thetwo sides over the last 25 years, affirming that their partnership has been promotedstrongly across fields.

For his part, ASEAN General Secretary Lim Jock Hoi stressed that the increasingrelations between ASEAN and India will benefit their people.

On the occasion, foreign guests planted trees in the park.

The park, in the shape of a D, has an area of nearly 1.2 hectares. -VNA
