Indonesia plans ASEAN disaster response simulation exercise

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) of Indonesia is planning to hold the ASEAN Regional Disaster Emergency Response Simulation Exercise (ARDEX) in Bantul, Yogyakarta province this year.
Jakarta (VNA) - The National Disaster MitigationAgency (BNPB) of Indonesia is planning to hold the ASEAN Regional DisasterEmergency Response Simulation Exercise (ARDEX) in Bantul, Yogyakarta province this year.

The 2023 ARDEX is scheduled to take place fromJuly 31 to August 3 outside the Sultan Agung Stadium in Bantul, BNPB ChiefSecretary Lilik Kurniawan said on March 8.

The exercise will form part of the ASEAN 2023 agenda of ChairIndonesia.

Indonesia expects the participation of all ASEAN countries,with at least each country sending five to 10 people, he said, adding that theBNPB will also invite countries that are Indonesia's partners in disastermitigation such as Australia, the US, Japan, and Switzerland, as well as othersas observers.

This year's ARDEX will also be part of the commemoration ofthe 17th anniversary of the 2006 earthquake in Bantul that killed over 5,700people and injured tens of thousands of others./.
