Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia’s anti-illegal fi🥀shi🦂ng task force 115 has sunk 30 vessels in five separate locations for poaching in the country’s rich seas.
Tyas Budiman, Director of the Maritime and Fisheries Ministry’s Monitoring Affairs Directorate General, made the announcement on February 22, adding that it is the first of such events this year.
Four Indonesian boats were also sunk after they were caught fishing without proper documentation.
Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said the government is taking stronger and firmer action to enforce regulations to keep Indonesia’s waters safe.
Since October 2014, Indonesia has scuttled about 150 vessels for illegal operations, including those from Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and China.-VNA
Indonesia and Thailand have agreed to set up a joint taskforce to deal with illegal fishing, said Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir.
