Can Tho (VNA) ☂– The sixth Vietnam International Shrimp Industry Technology Expo (VietShrimp 2025) opened in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on March 26, bringing together industry leaders, experts, and policymakers to advance sustainable shrimp farming.
Co-organised by the Directorate of Fisheries, the Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS), and the Vietnam Fisheries Magazine, the three-day event features over 200 booths from nearly 150 domestic and international enterprises.
The expo includes four key seminars on green shrimp farming, low-emission practices, supply chain improvements, and cost-saving technologies. It has attracted industry leaders, policymakers, business representatives, shrimp farmers, and students from aquaculture programmes across the Mekong Delta.
Speaking at the opening, VINAFIS Chairman Nguyen Viet Thang highlighted this year’s theme, "Greening Shrimp Farming Areas," stressing the need for collaboration among stakeholders to drive sustainable growth.
Vietnam has over 750,000 hectares of shrimp farms, with more than 200,000 hectares cultivated under eco-friendly models such as shrimp-mangrove and shrimp-rice systems. Many have received international certification, boosting their appeal in major export markets.
In 2024, Vietnam’s shrimp production reached 1.264 million tonnes, generating over 4 billion USD in exports—a significant rise from 2023.
