Japan assists with Hanoi’s public transport

The Japanese Government has committed to fund a 3 million USD project to upgrade Hanoi public transport system through its international cooperation agency (JICA).

The project, signed inVietnam ’s capital city on February 24 between the municipalPeople’s Committee and JICA, will be carried out in three years toimprove bus services in the nation’s second most populous city which isplagued by serious traffic jams.

The image ofHanoi’s public transport is expected to improve as bus services willbecome friendly and convenient, thus attracting more bus commuters andreducing traffic jams, according to the project donor and executive atthe signing ceremony.

JICA is to send experts,help in personnel training for the project’s management board either inJapan or other countries and provide equipment for the pilotperiod./.
