Japanese firms win intelligent traffic system bidding

Three Japanese corporations, Toshiba, Hitachi and Itochu, on March 18 announced that they had signed a joint contract to provide and install an intelligent traffic system (ITS) to Vietnam.
Three Japanese corporations, Toshiba, Hitachi and Itochu, on March 18announced that they had signed a joint contract to provide and installan intelligent traffic system (ITS) to Vietnam.

Under thecontract, the Japanese side will provide the electronic toll collection(ETC) system and equipment for monitoring and controlling transportationon the road, with a total cost of 4 billion yen (39.41 million USD)lent by the Japanese Government.

The system and equipment willbe put into operation on the North-South expressway and its 55km Ho ChiMinh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay section by 2017.

Toshiba willprovide intelligent traffic equipment for the system while Hitachi is incharge of the installation and Itochu is running business-relatedactivities.

The ITS will help reduce traffic tie-ups on the expressway and the aforesaid section, and increase the road capacity.-VNA
