Khanh Hoa to expand salangane nest farming

The central province of Khanh Hoa plans to designate 10,000 hectares to the establishment of five salangane nest villages by 2020, thus further promoting its bird nest brand at home and abroad.

According to the plan, the number of salangane nesting in Khanh Hoa willbe increased from 58,000 to just over 1.3 million in 2020.

Theprovince aims to develop the villages in combination with environmentalprotection and the sustainable development of wild salangane population.

The locality will apply a number of techniques that havealready been applied successfully by the Khanh Hoa Salanganes NestCompany, including different incubation and chick rearing methods.

KhanhHoa has the largest population of wild swallows in Vietnam, withsurveys counting more than 3,380 nests in 2014, which were collected in169 caves on 32 islands.

The province has also erected 500slangane nesting houses throughout Vietnam and transfers its expertiseand technology to more than 700 nesting houses all over the country.-VNA
