Kids lit up with free heart check-ups

Free check-ups to detect congenital heart diseases and consultation have come to children living in Nguyen Binh and Quang Uyen districts in northern mountainous Cao Bang province from June 22 – 24.

Six out of 532 tested children under the age of 18 requiresoperation. Doctors also helped their parents apply for assistance fromthe Heartbeat Vietnam programme.

The VinaCapital Foundation(VCF) will fully sponsor live-saving surgeries for children withinsurance and from financially disadvantaged families, and cover 70percent of the operation costs for others.

In2006, the VCF , a US non-governmental organisation, launched the“Heartbeat Vietnam” programme, which has helped cure thousands ofchildren with heart defects in Vietnam.-VNA
