Korean district hopes to attract more medical tourists from Vietnam

Gangnam district of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s capital city of Seoul on August 2 participated in the International Medical Hospital and Pharmaceutical Exhibition 2024 (Vietnam Medipharm Expo 2024) that is taking place in Ho Chi Minh City from August 1-3, with an aim to attract more medical tourists, especially from Vietnam.

Seoul (VNA) - Gangnam district of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s capital city of Seoul on August 2 participated in the International Medical Hospital and Pharmaceutical Exhibition 2024 (Vietnam Medipharm Expo 2024) that is taking place in Ho Chi Minh City from August 1-3, with an aim to attract more medical tourists, especially from Vietnam.

At the event, which draws 400 companies from 22 countries, the district organised a Gangnam medical tourism promotion centre with the engagement of six hospitals - Dream Plastic Surgery, DA Plastic Surgery, Pride Plastic Surgery, Gangnam Central Eye Clinic, Le Dental Clinic, and Podo Woman Clinic.

Particularly, the district introduced its “one-stop support service” Medical Gangnam app and a website providing information on its medical tourism.

According to the Gangnam administration, on the first day of the exhibition, the district's pavilion received about 2,000 visitors, while 37 business meetings were held.

District leaders also visited the HCM Department of Tourism to discuss mutual administrative support in providing post-operation care services, which allows patients to receive check-up/care at a hospital in Vietnam after taking surgery in the RoK.

Gangnam administration head Cho Seong-myeong said that thanks to its world-class medical tourism infrastructure and technology, the district welcomed an all-time high number of 180,000 medical tourists in 2023. It will continue to actively attract more medical tourists and strengthen its position as a medical tourism hub in the international market, he said.

😼 In 2023, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Gangnam for medical tourism hit 5,162, ranking sixth after Japan, China, the US, Thailand, and Singapore. In particular, a remarkable growth of up 84% was seen in the number of Vietnamese visitors in the year from 2,806 tourists in 2022./.
