National Assembly deputies continued their 10th session on November 2 by discussing Vietnam’s socio-economic performance in 2015 and plans for 2016. The majority of the legislators agreed with the Government’s report in the field, expressing their delight at the effective response to political and economic changes this year as well as commending outcomes in socio-economics, defence, security and external relations.
Ho Chi Minh City representative Nguyen Ngoc Hoa noted the country’s two outstanding successes of recording an economic growth of 6.5 percent and adequate budget collection. The deputies also pointed to a number of economic weakness and shortcomings, including poor productivity and competitiveness together with high public and bad debt, as well as difficulties facing agricultural export and high unemployment.
According to Nguyen Van Canh, southern Binh Dinh province’s Deputy, it is necessary to seek markets for agricultural products and foster coordination between farmers and businesses. Meanwhile, Khuc Thi Duyen, Thai Binh province’s representative, held that the Government should design more effective policies to support farmers in attracting investment from enterprises, develop industry in agriculture and provide vocational training for farmers. At the same time, it is crucial to adjust policies for better international integration to prepare for the Trans-Pacific Partnership and other free trade agreements, she suggested.-VNA
