Livestock farming efficiency promoted

The event, organised by theMinistry of Agricultural and Rural Development, reviewed theimplementation of the restructuring of livestock production and discussfuture action points.

Director of the Ministry’sNational Institute of Animal Sciences Nguyen Thanh Son highlighted thesector’s challenges in terms of productivity, quality and price, andcalled for the application of technology in stockbreeding.

Son also pointed out the lack of linkages between farmers andbusinesses, poor food safety and hygiene, and cumbersome administrativeprocedures.

Meanwhile, President of the VietnamAnimal Feed Association (VietFeed) Le Ba Lich underlined the financialdifficulties businesses in the sector faced, and suggested moredemand-oriented research be conducted.

Director ofthe Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agricultural and Rural DevelopmentNguyen Phuoc Trung stressed the significance of the quality ofstockbreeding and production scale in improving productivity and productquality.

The city offered a number of incentivesfor farmers to apply science and technologies in order to reduce costsin livestock production, Trung said.

Minister CaoDuc Phat called for a change in mindset among stakeholders to boost thesector’s restructuring process, thus enhancing its competitiveness andintegration into regional and global markets.

Thesector should focus on productivity and quality in order to meetconsumption and export demands, the Minister said, adding that theapplication of science and technology should also be fostered in theproduction process to reduce costs, while also ensuring food safety andhygiene.

Statistics published by the Ministry’sDepartment of Livestock show that the sector has grown by 4.8 percentover the past six months, meeting domestic demand in full and partlyfulfilling its export targets.-VNA
