Long An (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Long An and China’s Qinghai will bolster collaboration across various domains, including construction, human resources training, trade, tourism, agriculture, education, culture, and environmental protection under a freshly-inked Letter of Intent (LoI) on establishing friendship ties between the two localities.

The document was signed during a working session between Vice Chairman of the Long An province People’s Committee Nguyen Minh Lam and Deputy Governor of Qinghai Liu Tao on May 20. Liu and several officials from the Chinese province’s sectors and agencies came to visit and explore the investment climate in Long An.

At the event, Lam highlighted Long An’s strategic location as a vital economic gateway connecting the Mekong Delta with Ho Chi Minh City and the southeastern provinces of Vietnam.

Meanwhile, China currently ranks among the leading foreign investors in the province, with over 700 projects worth more than 3.1 billion USD. Chinese investment is concentrated in key sectors such as garment manufacturing, industrial processing, agricultural product processing, pharmaceuticals, and waste treatment.

Given existing potential and upcoming projects, Chinese investment is expected to claim the top position in Long An's foreign investment landscape, Lam stressed.

Liu, for his part, said he will inform businesses in Qinghai of the opportunities available in Long An, particularly in trade and agricultural cooperation. He noted that the visit lays the groundwork for long-term collaboration between the two provinces in areas of mutual interest.

The LoI outlines a commitment by both provinces to engage in comprehensive cooperation. Besides, their partnership will operate within the framework of each country’s laws and international agreements, and be based on principles of equality, mutual benefit, and mutual respect.

Earlier in the day, the Qinghai delegation toured the Long An International Port in Can Giuoc district and visited Shundao Vietnam Co., Ltd., in Thuan Dao Industrial Park, Ben Luc district./.
