Hanoi (VNA) – “Thieu” lychee, a specialty of Luc Ngan district in thenorthern province of Bac Giang, will be promoted in Hanoi from June 7 to 16.
The information was unveiled at a pressconference held in the capital by the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment (MARD) and the People’s Committee of Bac Giang on June 4.
A forum connecting production and consumption of“thieu” lychee and other special products of Luc Ngan district will take placeat the same time.
Vice Chairman of the district’s People’sCommittee Cao Van Hoan said the “thieu” lychee week event will offer clean andhigh-quality products from Luc Ngan, including “thieu” lychee - which is grownaccording to Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (VietGAP) and GlobalGAPstandards.
Nguyen Quoc Toan, Director of the MARD’s AgroProcessing and Market Development Authority (AgroTrade), said Luc Ngan lycheebrings high economic efficiency. It has been protected in eight countries. Alllychee growing areas in Luc Ngan had been granted with codes.
Luc Ngan district in Bac Giang province is thelargest fruit growing region in the north with nearly 28,000 hectares of fruitsof all kinds. It has over 15,000 hectaresfor growing lychee, including 12,000 hectares grown according to VietGAP andGlobalGAP standards.
Luc Ngan lychee is favoured by Chinesebusinesses and customers thanks to its good taste. In recent year, the fruithas been exported to many other countries such as the US, Japan, the Republicof Korea, the UK, France and Australia.
This year, Luc Ngan is expected to harvest about80,000 tonnes of “thieu” lychee priced between 30,000 VND (1.2 USD) and 40,000VND per kg based on quality.-VNA
The first batch of one tonne of Luc Ngan “thieu” lychees was exported to Thailand by the Central Group (Thailand) and Hanoi-based Phong Son Tiem Limited Company.
Increasing exports helped Bac Giang, the country’s lychee farming hub, obtain its most successful lychee crop in 2017, with the highest prices in six decades, heard a conference on August 2 in the northern province.
The export turnover of fruits and vegetables fell 9.9 percent year-on-year to 584 million USD in the first two months of 2019, according to the department of agro-product processing and market development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
With the current trading band of +/- 5%, the ceiling rate applicable for commercial banks during the day is 26,276 VND/USD and the floor rate 23,774 VND/USD.
