Man jailed for 14 years for administration overthrowing attempt
The People’s Court of northern Hoa Binh province on September 19 sentenced Dao Quang Thuc to 14 years in prison for conducting “activities aimed at overthrowing the people’s administration” under Clause 1, Article 79, the 1999 Penal Code.

Hoa Binh (VNA) – The People’s Courtof northern Hoa Binh province on September 19 sentenced Dao Quang Thuc to 14years in prison for conducting “activities aimed at overthrowing the people’sadministration” under Clause 1, Article 79, the 1999 Penal Code.
Thuc, born in 1960 and residing in Toan Soncommune of Da Bac district, will also be kept under surveillance for five yearsafter finishing his prison term.
According to the indictment, Thuc, a formerteacher at Trieu Phuc Lich Primary School in Da Bac district, used to commitlaw violations for many times and often undermined solidarity at his workingplace and the local community, forcing local authorities to take actions todeal with him.
After that, he became discontented and toconduct sabotage activities aimed at overthrowing the people’s administration,Thuc used his two Facebook accounts and email to contact with domestic andoverseas reactionary forces. He also posted and shared many articles andcomments with anti-State contents.
Thuc joined the “Chinh phu Quoc Gia Viet Nam lamthoi” (Provisional National Government of Vietnam), a reactionary and terroristorganisation that aims to eradicate the leadership of the Communist Party ofVietnam and the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam by armed riots. Hecarried out many activities and wrote many articles with anti-State contents tosend to this organisation.
State agencies warned Thuc about those activitiesfor many times, and he also pledged to stop such actions and not take part inreactionary organisations. However, Thuc still continued anti-State activitiesand even colluded with some others to plan terror attacks targeted at seniorofficials of Thanh Hoa and Hoa Binh provinces, the indictment said.

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Procuracy on August 22 proposed strict penalties for 12 defendants, who are members of a reactionary organisation, for conducting “activities aimed at overthrowing the people’s administration.”
