HCM City (VNA) – Teaching andlearning Vietnamese has long been a big demand of the overseas Vietnamesecommunity in order to preserve the homeland’s traditional cultural values,heard a seminar held in Ho Chi Minh City on January 6.
Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front(VFF) Central Committee Truong Thi Ngoc Anh said the Party and State havepromulgated a number of policies in the field, especially for younger generations.
The committee is willing to work with relevantagencies to seek diverse methods to improve the efficiency of teaching andlearning Vietnamese for Vietnamese expatriates as well as increase theircultural and spiritual life.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training NguyenVan Phuc said his ministry has compiled two books tilted “Tieng Viet vui”(Vietnamese is fun) for youths and children and “Que Viet” (Vietnamesehomeland) for adults, and posted them on the website //tiengvietonline.vn.
The ministry has coordinated with the StateCommission on Overseas Vietnamese (SCOV) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairsto open training courses for teachers and send lecturers to schools inneighbouring countries.
The ministry will build a six-level Vietnameseprogramme and upgrade the two aforesaid books in addition to compiling teachingdocuments for Vietnamese abroad, providing more training courses and launchinga teaching portal.
Vice Chairman of the SCOV Luong Thanh Nghi saidthe committee will actively support the building of infrastructure, textbooksand reference documents and organise summer camps for Vietnamese expats tolearn their language.
In 2018, the committee will open trainingcourses for Vietnamese teachers in disadvantaged areas of Cambodia and Laos, headded.

The Hanoi University of Culture has organised a ceremony to welcome 96 Korean students who will attend a Vietnamese language and culture course at the university.
