Mekong Delta fisheries centre to be built

The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho has approved a project to build a fisheries centre for the region, announced Director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Pham Van Quynh on May 7.
The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho has approved a project to builda fisheries centre for the region, announced Director of the municipalDepartment of Agriculture and Rural Development Pham Van Quynh on May 7.

At a working session with the Republic ofKorea’s institute for applied agriculture, Quynh said that the projectwill cover an area of about 110 hectares in Hung Phu 1 industrial zonein Tan Phu ward, Cai Rang district of Can Tho with an investment of 400million USD.

The project will focus on humanresources training, scientific research, aquatic technology transfer andtrade promotion. It will also include a fishery entrepot for the MekongDelta as well as domestic and overseas markets alongside with aregional fishery research institute, aqua-product processing complexesand a fresh water aqua-product trading floor.

Whenoperational, the centre will facilitate the active and sustainabledevelopment of the Mekong Delta’s fishery industry, boost regionaleconomic development and bring into play localities’ strengths.

It will also provide services to support production, such as improvingthe management of product quality and developing a fishery supportingindustry for the region.-VNA
