Ministry moves to ensure transport work quality

The Ministry of Transport will further intensify its management of transport projects across the country, in a bid to improve their quality and progress.

The plan was set forth during a conference heldin Hanoi on July 3, which reviewed the implementation of the ministry’splans in the first half of this year, and set new tasks for theremaining months.

The ministry also asked investors andmanagement boards of projects to examine ability of constructioncontractors and promptly replace those who cannot meet requirements onprogress and quality.
Agencies under the ministry, investorsand management boards were urged to work closely with localities toswiftly address difficulties in ground clearance work, while speeding uppaperwork to facilitate construction and capital disbursement.

Inaddition, the Transport Ministry requested the Vietnam RoadAdministration, and municipal and provincial departments of transport tomake thorough inspections of all the suspension bridges and makeshiftbridges across the country in order to ensure their safety.

Theministry will also quickly carry out the approved plan on buildingsuspension bridges in remote areas in the northern, central and centralhighlands mountainous regions.

According to reports at theconference, 29 transport projects have been completed and put into useso far this year, including the new National Highway No 3 connectingHanoi and the northern province of Thai Nguyen, five bidding packages inthe Hanoi-Lao Cai highway project and the Vinh Thinh Bridge linkingHanoi and Vinh Phuc province across the Hong (Red) River.

It is set to start the construction of 32 projects, and open 49 another ones to traffic in the last six months of this year.-VNA
