Ministry requests probe into attacks on “green lane” vehicle registration website
The Ministry of Transport on July 27 asked the Ministry of Public Security to launch an investigation into cyber attacks on the website for national registration of “green lane” status granted to vehicles transporting essential goods, saying attackers must receive stringent punishment.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Transport on July 27 askedthe Ministry of Public Security to launch an investigation into cyber attackson the website for national registration of “green lane” status granted to vehiclestransporting essential goods, saying attackers must receive stringent punishment.
“Green lane” vehicles receive a QR code, enabling them to beprioritised to pass COVID-19 checkpoints without lengthy waits. This aims to facilitatethe smooth circulation of necessities throughout the nation amid the COVID-19resurgence.
A day prior, the website was reportedly attacked by hackers withabout 500 requests per second on average, repeatedly crashing the system and preventingit from functioning normally, according to the Ministry of Transport.
It has disrupted the processing of applications for “greenlane” status. Loads of complaints have been sent to the Directorate for Roadsof Vietnam and local Departments of Transport nationwide as transport firmssaid that they could not access the website for hours.
The issue is considered serious given that a very largenumber of vehicles are applying for the “green lane” to go through the capitalcity of Hanoi, which has imposed social distancing order since early morning on July 24 to contain the spread of COVID-19.
There have been more than 20,000 applications for “greenlane” QR codes. Just over 7,000 codes have been granted by the Hanoi Departmentof Transport so far.
The Ministry of Transport also requested the Ministry ofInformation and Telecommunications to provide the Directorate for Roads ofVietnam with technical support to ensure cyber security for the system and preventfuture attacks./.
