More than 263 million USD invested abroad in first six months

Vietnamese firms invested 222.48 million USD in 67 newly-licensed projects abroad in the first six months of 2018, reported the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese firms invested 222.48 million USD in67 newly-licensed projects abroad in the first six months of 2018, reported theForeign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The enterprises also poured an additional 40.6 million USD into 14underway projects, pushing total investment abroad in the first half of theyear to 263.08 million USD.

Finance-banking was the most attractive sector for Vietnamese businessesin the period, which drew 106.17 million USD, accounting for 40 percent of the total.

The sector was followed by agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, processingand manufacturing industries.

According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), in the first fivemonths of 2018, Vietnamese enterprises invested nearly 184.7 million USD inoverseas projects.

From January to May,Vietnamese businesses invested in 24 countries and territories.  Among them, Laos lured the lion’s share ofinvestments with 43.4 percent of total funds, the GSO said.

Apart fromtraditional markets such as Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar, Vietnamese businessesare expanding to markets like Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, Haiti andCameroon.

Cuba emerged as thethird biggest investment destination of Vietnamese enterprises after Laos andCambodia.-VNA
