Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar allowedrepresentatives of United Nations (UN) agencies to come to the country’s northernstate of Rakhine on September 28.
Speaking with reporters, Stephane Dujarric,spokesperson of the UN Secretary General, expressed his hope that the MyanmarGovernment-sponsored trip will be a breakthrough for rendering humanitarian aidto the region.
Earlier, UN High Commissioner for Refugees FilippoGrandi said UN agencies were unable to distribute aid to people in Rakhinestate since conflict broke out on August 25, when militants launched attacks onpolice posts in the state.
The UN estim🦩ated that about 480,000 Rohingya people hadfled into ⛄Bangladesh over fear of violence. Meanwhile, nearly 800,000 peopleare taking shelters along the border.
The UN has appealed for humanitarian aid for 700,000people. A meeting of the Security Council on September 28 willdiscuss the current situation in Myanmar. The Global New Light newspaper ofMyanmar reported that the Government will manage the rebuilding of villages inconflict areas.-VNA
More than 123,000 people in Rakhine state of Myanmar, mostly Rohingya Muslims, have fled into Bangladesh since fighting broke out between government military and insurgents late last month, reported the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
