NA Chairwoman greets medical sector on doctors’ day

Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly (NA) ChairwomanNguyen Thi Kim Ngan extended her best wishes to the staff of medical sector onthe occasion of the 64th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors’ Day(February 27) during a ceremony at the National Hospital of TraditionalMedicine in Hanoi.

The NA Chairwoman expressed her delight that the hospitalfulfilled its eight assigned tasks last year with over 90 percent of patientsrecovering or relieving from illness.

She said the Party and State always pay attention todeveloping traditional medicine to improve public healthcare quality. Inlegislation, the NA has built the Law on Protection of Public Health, thePharmaceutical Law and the Law on Health Insurance.

In the near future, the law-making body will continuereviewing legal regulations to further improve public health care, Ngan said.

As health and education-training are daily concerns, sheasked the sector to continue developing traditional medicine.

The hospital was required to turn itself into a trustworthydestination for health care and international cooperation in traditionalmedicine with countries in the region and the world.

The top legislator highlighted the importance of the combinationof traditional and modern medicines in public health care, adding that thehospital staff need to build on their past achievements to contribute to publichealth care in the most effective way.

Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of thehospital Vu Nam said it is now home to eight functional rooms, 14 clinical and sevennear-clinical departments, four centres, and nearly 500 staff.

Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said 58 out of the 63cities and provinces now have traditional medicine hospitals while allhospitals have traditional medicine departments. The health sector is strivingto adopt traditional medicine in 80 percent of medical stations in wards andcommunes.

On the occasion, Chairwoman Ngan visited and presented giftsto patients receiving traditional medicine treatment at the hospital’s oncologydepartment.-VNA
