NA Standing Committee’s 46th session closes

The 46th session of the 13th National Assembly Standing Committee concluded in Hanoi on March 9 after three days of sitting, fulfilling a pile of tasks.

Hanoi (VNA) – The 46th session of the 13thܫ National Assembly Standing Committee concluded in Hanoi on March 9 after three days of sitting, fulfilling a pile of tasks.

In his closing remarks, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung underscored the importance of the upcoming 11th meeting, the last gathering of the 13th legislature, and called on relevant agencies to complete preparations for the event. The 11th meeting, due to take place from March 21 to April 16, is scheduled to approve seven draft laws, including the Law on Access to Information; the Law on Signing, Joining and Implementing International Treaties (amended); the Law on the Press (amended); the Law on Child Protection, Care and Education (amended); the Pharmacy Law (amended); the Law on amendments and supplements to some articles of the Law on Value Added Tax, the Law on Special Consumption Tax and the Law on Tax Management; and the Law on Export and Import Tariffs.
According NA Secretary General Nguyen Hanh Phuc, delegates will assess the actualisation of socio-economic development tasks and the State budget in 2015. They will also gave feedback on the realisation of the socio-economic development plan during 2011-2015 and decide on the socio-economic development plan for the next five years, as well as the plan on land use for 2016-2020. Working reports presented by the NA and its agencies, the State Audit Office of Vietnam, the President, the Government, the Prime Minister, the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuracy will also be scrutinised, he said.
During the 46 th session, legislators debated draft working reports of the 13 th NA and its Standing Committee, and a report acquiring feedback on the draft Law on Access to Information. They approved a resolution ratifying personnel structure of the 13 th NA’s Secretariat. NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung suggested the draft reports should highlight the support of voters and people nationwide for the 13 th legislature as well as the role of NA deputies during the entire tenure. Regarding the report acquiring feedback on the draft Law on Access to Information, the NA Standing Committee said the State is responsible for ensuring citizens’ right to information access.
Therefore, the bill’s prescription of State agencies’ responsibility for providing information for citizens aims to help them show the publicity and transparency of their activities, the committee noted.-VNA
