NA to review Vo Kim Cu’s deputy title over Formosa incident
The National Assembly’s Standing Committee will ask the National Assembly to consider the deputy title of Vo Kim Cu given his wrongdoings in the Formosa marine environmental incident.
Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly’s Standing Committee will ask theNational Assembly to consider the deputy title of Vo Kim Cu given hiswrongdoings in the Formosa marine environmental incident, said NA SecretaryGeneral Nguyen Hanh Phuc on April 22.
Vo Kim Cu is the former leader of central Ha Tinh province where the Formosafactory is based. He was elected as a deputy of the 14th NationalAssembly by a majority of 75 percent during the national elections in May 2016.
After the Formosa-caused marine environmental pollution incident affecting fourcentral coastal provinces was brought to light, many deputies asked theparliament to review Cu’s deputy title right at the first meeting of the 14th NA.
At the time, the NA Secretary General Nguyen Hanh Phuc said any reconsiderationof Cu’s title had to wait for the official conclusion of the Party CentralCommittee’s Inspection Commission and the Party Central Committee’s Secretariaton his wrongdoings in the Formosa case.
On April 21, 2017, the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat announced aconclusion on wrongdoings related to the Formosa environmental incident of theParty Affairs Section of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment andseveral officials under the management of the Party Central Committee’sSecretariat.
The Secretariat decided to dismiss Cu from his post as member of the StandingBoard of the provincial Party Committee in two tenures of 2005-2010 and2010-2015, including the positions as Secretary of the Party Affairs Section ofthe provincial People’s Committee, Vice Secretary of the provincial PartyCommittee and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee in line with Partyregulations after Cu was found to have signed many documents against the law toaid Formosa.
According to Phuc, Vo Kim Cu’s wrongdoings were serious and he no longer hadenough credibility to be a National Assembly deputy.
The final decision will be made during the upcoming third meeting of the NationalAssembly in May this year.-VNA
