Nam Dinh Vu deep-water port put into use in Hai Phong

Hai Phong (VNA) – Gemadept Corporation and Sao DoGroup put Nam Dinh Vu port (the first stage) into operation in Nam Dinh Vuindustrial park in the northern port city of Hai Phong on May 7.

It is the seventh among Gemadept’s ports which is able toaccommodate vessels up to 40,000 tonnes.

The port covers an area of 65ha with a 1,500m wharf, costinga total of 6 trillion VND. The second stage of the project is expected to beginin the third quarter this year. By 2020, it will become the largest deep-waterport in Dinh Vu, Hai Phong.

General Director of Gemadept Vietnam Do Van Minh said thevolume of containers handled via Hai Phong ports has grown by 15 percentannually over the past five years. It is forecast that 100 million tonnes ofcargo will be handled via Hai Phong ports this year.

Therefore, the construction of Nam Dinh Vu port and LachHuyen international port in Hai Phong will ease pressure on inland ports andtraffic, and improve the capacity of cargo handling.

Director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration Nguyen XuanSang said Nam Dinh Vu is the nearest to other ports in Hai Phong with linkagewith Hanoi – Hai Phong, Hai Phong – Ha Long highways, making it an idealtransit in the global logistics chain.-VNA
