National conference seeks health professionals education and standards
The fifth Medical Education Conference was held in both online and in-person formats at the Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy in the northern province of Thai Binh on December 18-19, with the theme “Health Professionals Education and Standards at the Time of Change”.

Thai Binh (VNA) – The fifth Medical Education Conference washeld in both online and in-person formats at the Thai Binh University ofMedicine and Pharmacy in the northern province of Thai Binh on December 18-19,with the theme “Health Professionals Education and Standards at the Time ofChange”.
The conference was jointly held by the People’s Committee ofThai Binh province, Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the WorldHealth Organization (WHO), the United States Agency for International Development(USAID), the Health Advancement in Vietnam (HAIVN), the British Embassy inVietnam, medical and pharmaceutical universities, domestic and foreign agenciesand organisations.
In his opening remarks, Vice President of the NationalMedical Council and head of the Health Ministry’s Department of ScienceTechnology and Training Pham Van Tac said that in order to meet the increasingdemand for health, the quality of education at medical training institutionsshould be paid special attention, especially in the transition period inscience and technology, and information technology amidst the complicateddevelopment of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The conference creates a wonderfulopportunity for medicine and pharmacy universities, colleges in Vietnam toshare and stimulate discussion on curriculum innovation, which improve theeducation quality and meet the social expectation, he affirmed.
USAID/Vietnam Mission Director Ann Marie Yastishock saidthat the agency is ready to share experience and solutions with Vietnam’sMinistry of Health and Universities of Medicine and Pharmacy in modernisingmedical training programmes in the country. She expressed her hope that this medicaleducation conference would provide an opportunity to connect value networkswith researchers and educators in the medical field in Vietnam and in manyother countries, thus contributing to building and developing medical trainingin general.
During the two-day event, participants discussed urgentissues in current medical education such as the role of medical universities inpreparing for the national licensing exam, autonomy of universities, accreditationof training programmes, difficulties and solutions in competency-based education,challenges and solutions for residency education, dental, pharmacy and nursingeducation programme reform and innovations and applications of digital transformationin medical education./.
