Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power plant gets consultancy

An agreement to this effect was signed in Hanoi on Nov. 21 byElectricity of Vietnam (EVN) and the three companies under the witnessof Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, who is Head of theSteering Committee of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project, and thefirst Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shovalov, who is Co-Chair ofthe Russia-Vietnam Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade,Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

Under thecontract, the Russian Government will fund such consultation services,which will be provided within 18 months, excluding appraisal and dossierratification time from the Vietnamese side.

TheEVN-invested Ninh Thuan power nuclear project is part of the nationalelectric development plan during the 2011-2020 period.

Located in Phuoc Dinh commune, Thuan Nam district in the centralcoastal province of Ninh Thuan , the nuclear plant, the first of itskind in Vietnam , has a total capacity of 2,000 MW from two turbines.

Once operational, the plant is expected tocontribute to meeting power demands for socio-economic development,enhancing national energy security, and improving the country’s atomicenergy technologies./.
