Ninh Thuan turning high-tech agriculture into economic spearhead

The south-central province of Ninh Thuan has supported production facilities and cooperatives in applying science and technology to production, aiming to create breakthroughs in productivity and quality, and promote sustainable agriculture.

Ninh Thuan (VNA) – The south-centralprovince of Ninh Thuan has supported production facilities and cooperatives inapplying science and technology to production, aiming to create breakthroughsin productivity and quality, and promote sustainable agriculture.

Many local households and cooperatives have investedin technologies to raise productivity and boost agro-ecotourism.

The Thai An General Agriculture Service Cooperativein Vinh Hai commune, Ninh Hai district, for example, has produced high-qualityseedless grape thanks to high-tech application, with each hectare creating up to 600 million VND (25,545 USD) per crop.

Its orchards have also lured crowds of tourists whobuy fresh grape and its processed products right in the gardens, said directorof the cooperative Nguyen Khac Phong.

The provincial Department of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment said Ninh Thuan has offered a range of incentives in support ofproduction facilities, businesses and cooperatives.

The locality has attracted 31 high-tech agriculturalprojects so far, all of which have been operational, it said, noting that NinhThuan is now home to 260 hectares of high-tech farming land and the area isexpected to reach 1,000 hectares by 2025.

Such fruitful agricultural models have contributedto creating changes in the production mindset of local farmers in response toclimate change, and expanding consumption markets.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee LeHuyen said Ninh Thuan is pushing ahead with agriculture restructuring, with afocus on high-tech agriculture in combination with digital economy and digitaltransformation, taking this a breakthrough solution to promoteagricultural production and improve people’s living standards.

The value of the local agricultural sector isexpected to increase 4-5% this year, and that of high-tech agriculturalproduction set to grow 30-40%, the official stressed.

At the same time, Ninh Thuan will work to lurebusinesses from other localities to its high-tech agriculture, targeting atleast 20 effective high-tech agricultural projects.

Ninh Thuan will earmark nearly 7 billion VND to support10 high-tech agricultural projects, while enhancing cooperation with centres,research institutes and organisations in and outside the province in selecting productiontechnologies, and plant varieties and animal breeds for production.

It will also roll out credit policies for productionfacilities, develop personnel in high-tech agriculture, intensify productionconnectivity, and step up trade promotion, thus turning high-tech agricultureinto an economic spearhead, the official said./.
