Organic agricultural production forum to draw 400 delegates

As many as 400 delegates from many countries around the world will attend an international forum on organic agriculture that will take place in Hanoi from December 15-16.

Hanoi (VNA) – As many as 400 delegates from many countries around theworld will attend an international forum on organic agriculture that will takeplace in Hanoi from December 15-16, revealed Deputy Minister of Agriculture andRural Development Tran Thanh Nam.

Nam saidthat the event, themed “organic agricultural production – internationalintegration trend”, is expected to draw representatives from 27 internationalorganisations and 27 agriculture associations, ambassadors from countriesrunning organic agriculture, and over 300 Vietnamese experts.

The forum offersa chance for participants to share experience in organic agriculturalproduction and seek partnership.

Nam saidthat Vietnam has increasing demand for organic agricultural production.Currently, the country has about 70,000 hectares of organic farms with theengagement of many large firms, international organisations and enterprises.

TheMinistry of Agriculture and Rural Development has completed a draft decree onorganic agricultural production and submitted it to the Ministry of Justice forverification before sending it to the Government.

Thedocument is expected to be issued in early 2018. After that, the ministry willimmediately design a project on developing organic agricultural production andproducts in Vietnam, Nam said.

The DeputyMinister held that this is a great chance for Vietnamese firms to join in organicagriculture development, providing organic products for both domestic andforeign markets.

A set ofstandards for organic products will also be made, along with specific criteriaof certification and labelling, he said, adding that the certification oforganic products will be conducted by international organisations.-VNA
